Our Teaching Method
'Dance to Discover!'™
The Dance to Learn!® Curriculum is formulated to explore dance techniques, principles and choreography as well as school subjects. This allows the students a new way to develop a thought process on school, school assignments and different school subjects. Each week a new topic is covered to keep classes exciting. Topics are based on what the children are learning in school. This allows them to successfully merge their after school fun with their objectives as students.
In the Elementary Program, our Dance to Learn ® Curriculum is designed to reinforce what children are learning in school. Using dance as a tool to expand the learning curve and allow children a new way of thinking, and problem solving to ultimately improve school work. Including dance activities that incorporate Math, Science, History and Literacy creates a recipe for the child's overall success.
'Dance to Learn!'®
Our sessions are structured to encourage student choreography and creative input. This allows for the children to build self-confidence, boost self-esteem and find their identity through dance and movement. Students will be asked to create dances and movements both as individuals and in teams to learn how the creative process can flourish with team work. Improvisation exercises and free style allows the students to break free from structured, teacher-lead activities and offers them the opportunity to completely submerge themselves in their own artistic needs.
'Dance to Express!'™
The 'Dance to Learn!'® Elementary Program includes the 6 Methods of Dance™. Designed to teach the whole child, it is not simply a recreational program. The Elementary Program Curriculum is used as a teaching tool designed to supplement what our students are already learning in school. The Program is designed to increase self-esteem, allow a new form of self expression and identity, and foster a new level of thinking and problem solving all while having fun!
'Dance to Accept'™
'Dance to Learn!'® strives to teach each and every student to embrace their differences. Through dance, we teach children how each person is unique and has individual qualities and talents. Students are encouraged to utilize the talents and qualities of others along with their own personal assets to come together to create beautiful movement and art. Many 'Dance to Learn!'® activities require small and large group work and input from every participant. Intolerance and bullying is not acceptable in our program.
'Dance to Move'™
Our classes include dance styles, that are age appropriate and popular for the times! We stay current on popular dance trends and draw inspiration from the ever popular So You Think You Can Dance, Dancing with the Stars and America's Best Dance Crew. At a time where childhood obesity is becoming an epidemic, it is imperative that we can get kids moving and staying active in a fun and healthy way.
'Dance to Create'™
The 'Dance to Learn!'® Curriculum teaches the basis of Choreography development in the Elementary Program classes. Each class will be asked to create a student created choreographic work with an understanding of the elements of dance (space, time, energy). This choreographic challenge is combined with teacher created choreography and input.
